What Nimbus costs

Nothing. The desktop app is free and complete: all six study modes, the cram planner, the focus timer, progress tracking, import, export, and unlimited decks and cards. It works with no account and no network. There is no trial that expires, no feature that stops working, and no upsell inside it.

The sync server is in the repository under an MIT licence, so you can run sync yourself, for any number of your own machines, at no cost.

Nimbus Pro is not launched

The pricing page lists a plan called Nimbus Pro, marked as not available. It is intended to cover hosted sync, which is the part that would cost money to run. It is not something you can buy today: there is no button that takes a payment, and no price is quoted, because quoting one for a product that cannot be bought is a claim about a thing that does not exist.

If paid plans are ever launched

This section is the commitment that will apply from the day a payment is first possible. It is written in advance so it cannot be quietly weakened later, and this page will say "Nimbus Pro is a subscription" from that day rather than what it says now.

If you think you have been charged

Nimbus cannot have charged you. Check the merchant name on the statement against the app you think it belongs to, and raise it with your bank. If a third party is selling something called Nimbus and implying it is this project, please tell us at the contact address so it can be dealt with.

What costs money, and what does not

Nimbus Pro pays for the parts of Nimbus that run on a server, which are the parts that cost money to run. It covers syncing your decks and review history between machines, publishing decks to the public library, creating a share link to one of your decks, and the two AI features: asking a question about the card you are studying, and generating draft cards from a PDF or a PowerPoint file.

There are two ways to pay for it and they buy exactly the same thing: a monthly subscription, or a single Lifetime payment that covers it for as long as the hosted service runs. Lifetime is not a reduced version and holds nothing back, including the AI features, which come with the same daily allowance a subscriber gets. What “lifetime” means is defined in section 3b of the terms, in those words, because it is the one thing about the purchase that could be misread in a way that costs you money.

Stripe is the seller. Nimbus Pro is sold through Stripe Managed Payments, so a Stripe company takes the payment, works out and pays the sales tax, VAT or GST, sends the receipt and the invoice, and can issue a refund. The purchase shows as Sold through Link and on your statement as LINK.COM. That changes who you can ask and who can pay, which is set out below. It does not reduce anything promised on this page.

Turning a share link off is never charged for and never needs an active subscription. Neither does opening a link somebody sent you. If your subscription lapses, the links you already created keep working and you keep the ability to withdraw any of them, so you are never put in the position of having to pay to take something back.

The refund terms below apply to the subscription as a whole. There is no separate charge for an AI request and no credit pack to buy: a fair daily allowance is included, it resets every day, and running out of it is never a charge and never a reason you cannot get a refund.

Everything else is free and is not time-limited, feature-limited or account-limited: all six study modes, the cram planner, the focus timer, progress tracking, import, export, and unlimited decks and cards. The app works with no account and no network at all. The server is in the repository under an MIT licence, so you can also run sync yourself and pay nothing.

The Class plan on the pricing page is not built and cannot be bought. It is labelled as planned and its button does nothing.

Cancelling

Sign in at your account page and press Manage or cancel. That opens the Stripe customer portal, where cancelling is one click. No form, no retention offer, no "are you sure" sequence, no phone call, and nothing to email.

Cancelling stops the next charge. Nimbus Pro keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for, because you paid for it. Nothing is deleted when it ends: your decks stay on every machine they are already on, export keeps working exactly as before, and signing up again later picks up where you left off.

Stripe's own order management at link.com lists everything you have bought through it and can cancel a subscription too. Either place works and there is no wrong one to use.

A Lifetime payment has nothing to cancel. There is no renewal to stop and no card kept on file, so the account page shows no cancel button for it. If you want to end it and get the payment back, that is a refund, and it is below.

Switching from the subscription to Lifetime

Do not cancel first. Buying Lifetime cancels your subscription for you, automatically, once the payment has gone through. Cancelling first is the thing that could leave you without Pro if the purchase then failed.

The cancellation is immediate rather than at the end of the month, because there is nothing left for the rest of that month to pay for. If a renewal was taken in the days before you bought Lifetime, the 14-day rule below covers it: ask, and it comes back in full. Your account page tells you if the cancellation did not go through for any reason, with the button to finish it, rather than leaving you to find out from a statement.

Refunds

Within 14 days

A full refund on request within 14 days of a charge, including a renewal charge and including the Lifetime payment. No reason needed. Email the contact address from the address on the account and say you want a refund. You will get a reply within 5 working days, and the refund goes back to the card Stripe charged, usually arriving in 5 to 10 days depending on your bank.

You can also ask Stripe directly, through Link support, because Stripe is the seller. Stripe can issue a refund itself, and it may do so on its own initiative if it handles a request we have not answered. Both routes are real and you do not have to pick correctly: whichever you use, the refund is the same amount and includes any tax you paid.

If you are a consumer in the UK or the EU, you already have a 14-day right to cancel a distance contract by law. Nothing here reduces it, and nothing here is offered in place of it.

After 14 days

Outside that window a refund is at our discretion, and it is usually given for an accidental renewal on an account with no sign-in activity in that period. Ask.

What a refunded Lifetime payment does

Refunding the Lifetime payment in full ends Lifetime Pro, and the account goes straight back to free. That happens automatically, whoever issued the refund and whether or not anybody tells us: the server is told by Stripe that the payment came back, and it acts on that. It is the same bargain in reverse, and it is the honest version of it. You are not charged for something you have had returned, and you do not keep something you have been refunded for.

Nothing is deleted. Sync stops, exactly as it does when a subscription ends. Your decks stay on every machine they are already on, export keeps working, and the app carries on as it does for somebody who never had an account. You can buy it again later if you want to.

A partial refund does not end it. If part of the payment comes back for some other reason, such as a tax correction, Lifetime Pro stays.

Deleting your account also ends it, and that is not a refund. Deletion is immediate and irreversible, and afterwards there is no record left to refund against or restore from. The app says so in the confirmation you have to read before it happens. If you want the money back, ask before you delete the account rather than after.

If something was broken

If sync did not work and you paid for sync, that is a refund, not a discretionary favour, and it is not limited to 14 days.

That covers the Lifetime payment too, and it is the clause that matters most there. Lifetime means the lifetime of the hosted service rather than yours, which is said plainly in section 3b of the terms. If that service ends sooner than you could reasonably have expected when you paid for it, this is the clause to point at, and no 14-day window applies.

There are no hidden fees

Failed payments

If a renewal fails, Stripe retries it over several days and Nimbus Pro keeps working during that window rather than cutting off on the first failure. Your account page says that the payment needs attention. If the retries all fail, the subscription ends and the account returns to free. Nothing is deleted.

A Lifetime payment has no renewal, so none of that can happen to it. The only thing that ends it is a full refund, or deleting the account.

Price changes

If the price of Nimbus Pro changes, an existing subscription is not repriced without telling you first and giving you the chance to cancel before it takes effect.

A Lifetime payment already made is never affected by a later price change, in either direction. You paid once, at the price shown at the time. If the Lifetime price goes up, goes down, or stops being offered, what you bought stays exactly as it was.
